The Insta360 X3 360° action camera records spherical video and high-resolution still images from every direction at once. A 72 MP CMOS sensor pairs with a fixed 360-degree lens to capture 5K Ultra HD video. This wide field of view lets users reframe footage during post-production, making the camera suitable for action sports and creative videography. Still images reach a maximum resolution of 11,968 × 5,984 pixels. Electronic image stabilisation and a built-in gyroscope work together to smooth out movement. The optical design removes the need to pan the camera manually while recording.

The plastic housing carries an IPX8 rating, allowing operation at underwater depths up to 10 metres without an external case. Control is handled via a 2.29-inch LCD touchscreen that provides access to standard, time-lapse, and 1080p recording modes. A 1800 mAh lithium-ion battery supplies up to 1.35 hours of recording time per charge. Data transfer and remote operation rely on Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC connections compatible with Android and iOS smartphones. Files are written to a microSD card with a 1 TB maximum capacity through the USB Type-C port. Stereo microphones with wind-noise filtering maintain audio quality in blustery conditions.
