This StarTech.com USB-C to 2.5GbE Ethernet adapter (NBASE-T NIC) adds a wired network connection to laptops and desktop computers that lack a built-in Ethernet port. The adapter connects via USB-C and uses the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard, ensuring sufficient bandwidth for high-speed local networks. It supports data transfer rates of up to 2500 Mbit/s over standard copper infrastructure, outperforming traditional Gigabit interfaces. The device is bus-powered, drawing energy directly from the host system without the need for an external power supply. As a dedicated wired networking solution, it does not include Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

The compact design—measuring 80 mm by 27 mm—is suitable for mobile workstations and travel. A built-in 0.15 m cable reduces strain on the host computer’s USB port while maintaining a tidy desktop setup. The Realtek RTL8156BG chipset manages the connection, and integrated LEDs provide visual confirmation of link activity and connection speed.
