The GARDENA Soil Moisture Sensor (01867-20) measures moisture levels in garden soil and passes the readings to a watering system, so irrigation runs only when the soil is dry. It suits lawns and flower beds. By tracking moisture near the roots, the sensor helps maintain healthy plant growth and avoids unnecessary watering.

The sensor is pushed into the ground at root depth and connects to an irrigation controller with a 5 m cable. It works with compatible water computers to automate the watering routine. The sealed housing keeps working while buried, so readings are taken where the roots are. Using a moisture sensor also helps prevent waterlogging, which damages roots. Installation is manual and needs no special tools in normal soil.
