The ZTE G5 Air is a 5G Wi-Fi 7 Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) gateway designed to convert cellular signals into a high-speed local network. It operates on the 3GPP R16 5G standard to provide internet connectivity where fixed broadband is unavailable, with 4G LTE fallback to maintain connection continuity. The device utilises the Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) standard, delivering a maximum wireless data rate of 3570 Mbit/s. Its 2x4 MIMO configuration handles high-bandwidth tasks, supporting multiple simultaneous video streams, large file downloads, and stable connections for households or small offices.

Physical connectivity consists of two Ethernet LAN ports: one 2.5 Gigabit interface and one Gigabit port, providing wired speeds up to 2500 Mbit/s for desktop PCs or network switches. The rear panel features a standard SIM card slot. Two internal high-gain antennas handle cellular reception, and TS-9 connectors are available for external antenna integration in areas with poor coverage. An RJ11 port is included for legacy telephony over the cellular network. For remote access, the router features a built-in VPN client and VPN passthrough. It is powered via an external adapter and managed through a web-based interface.
