Synology DiskStation DS1821+ - Network Attached Storage, Black

The Synology DiskStation DS1821+ 8-bay desktop NAS is a centralised storage server for managing data across local networks. It features a 2.2 GHz quad-core AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B processor for multi-user workloads. This specific configuration includes 48 TB of storage capacity, provided by eight pre-installed 6 TB hard drives. The system comes with 4 GB of DDR4 ECC RAM, which can be expanded to 32 GB. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and JBOD for data redundancy, and includes two dedicated M.2 slots for SSD cache acceleration without occupying the primary drive bays.

Connectivity is provided by four Gigabit Ethernet ports, which support link aggregation for higher bandwidth. The chassis includes four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and two eSATA ports for peripherals. Power is supplied by an internal 250 W power supply unit. Security protocols, including SSL/TLS and SSH, protect data during network transmission. The system is compatible with Windows and macOS via SMB, NFS, and AFP protocols. Hardware features include LED system status indicators and a Kensington security slot.

• Hot-swappable drive bays: allow for disk replacement or maintenance without powering down the server.
• PCIe Gen 3 x8 expansion slot: enables the addition of 10GbE networking or M.2 storage cards.
• Btrfs file system support: provides flexible storage management and data protection features, such as self-healing.
• ECC memory: identifies and corrects single-bit errors to prevent data corruption and system crashes.
• 2,048 concurrent user capacity: supports high-density access in small-to-medium business environments.
• Network failover: maintains connectivity by switching to an alternate port if the primary connection fails.
• 22.2 dB noise rating: ensures quiet operation, suitable for office environments.
• Snapshot data protection: enables point-in-time recovery of folders and LUNs to protect against accidental deletion.
