The Synology RackStation RS1221RP+ is a 2U rackmount NAS for small to medium-sized businesses. It is powered by an AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B quad-core processor (2.2 GHz) and includes 4 GB of DDR4 ECC memory. This unit comes pre-configured with 96 TB of storage across eight installed hard disk drives. The eight hot-swappable bays support 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA HDDs or SSDs. Connectivity is provided by four 1 GbE RJ-45 ports that support link aggregation and failover, and internal RAID supports levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and JBOD.

Reliability is supported by a redundant power supply and Error Correction Code (ECC) memory to prevent data corruption. A single PCIe Gen 3 x8 slot allows for the addition of network interface cards or M.2 NVMe adapter cards. The unit runs on the DiskStation Manager operating system, which includes tools for file sharing and automated backups. Data protection features include snapshot-based recovery and iSCSI LUN support for virtualised environments. Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and one eSATA port allow for the connection of external storage devices or expansion units. The system is cooled by two 80 mm fans, and the 350 W power supply has a typical power consumption of 61.94 W.
