The ZyXEL VMG3312-T20A-EU01V1F ADSL2+/VDSL2 modem router is a fixed-line gateway for home and small office networks. It connects to the internet via DSL or an Ethernet WAN interface. The device requires a wired broadband connection and does not support SIM cards or 4G/5G mobile networks. Localised connectivity is provided by a single-band 2.4 GHz radio using the Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) standard. With a maximum throughput of 300 Mbit/s, it handles standard tasks such as web browsing, email, and file synchronisation.

Two internal antennas are housed within the chassis to keep the device compact. The rear panel features four RJ45 LAN ports for wired connections to desktop computers, televisions, or network storage. A single USB 2.0 port allows for the connection of peripherals such as printers or external drives. Security features include a built-in firewall and Denial of Service (DoS) protection. Wireless transmissions are secured with WPA2 and WPA2-PSK encryption. Users can configure the device via a web-based interface or the automated DHCP server.
