The Synology RackStation RS1221+ 8-Bay NAS is a 2U rack-mount storage server for small-to-medium businesses and power users who need centralized data management. It features eight drive bays that accommodate 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or solid-state drives. A quad-core AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B processor running at 2.2 GHz provides the performance needed for multi-user file access and data protection. Connectivity is provided by four integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports with support for link aggregation. The system comes with 4 GB of DDR4 ECC memory to ensure data integrity; this can be expanded to 32 GB via two SO-DIMM slots.

The chassis has hot-swappable drive bays, allowing for disk replacement or maintenance without stopping the system. Two 80 mm fans manage cooling, with a noise level of 25.2 dB under typical conditions. An eSATA port is provided for connecting external storage units. The system is managed via the DiskStation Manager operating system, which uses a web-based interface to configure storage protocols such as iSCSI, SMB, and NFS.
