The Sony WH-1000XM4 is a set of over-ear wireless headphones featuring a closed acoustic design. Audio is reproduced by 40mm dynamic drivers with aluminum-coated diaphragms, covering a frequency range of 4 Hz to 40,000 Hz. The headphones connect using Bluetooth 5.0 and support multiple audio codecs, including SBC, AAC, and LDAC for high-resolution audio transmission. For non-wireless use, a 1.2-meter detachable cable with a 3.5mm connector is provided in the package.

The integrated active noise-canceling system is adaptive, designed to automatically adjust suppression levels based on the surrounding environment. Five microphones are incorporated for voice pickup, which also facilitates microphone noise-cancellation during calls. The lithium-ion battery delivers up to 30 hours of playback with ANC active and recharges in approximately 3 hours via the USB-C port. A 10-minute fast charge provides extended listening time. The headphones feature touch sensor controls on the earcup and a foldable design for storage in the included carrying case.
