The Sony HT-S400 is a 2.1 channel soundbar system that includes a main speaker bar and a separate wireless subwoofer. It provides a total power output of 330W RMS and is designed to create a wider soundstage than standard TV speakers. The system decodes Dolby Digital audio and utilizes S-Force PRO Front Surround technology to simulate a surround sound experience from two front-facing speakers. The soundbar's speakers feature an X-Balanced design, which employs a rectangular diaphragm to maximize the cone area for sound pressure and clarity.

An integrated OLED display on the front of the soundbar provides clear feedback on volume levels, input source, and selected sound modes. System control is handled by the included remote or through a compatible BRAVIA television via the HDMI ARC connection, which supports BRAVIA Sync (CEC). In addition to HDMI, connectivity options include a digital optical input and a USB-A port for playback. The system is also equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 technology, allowing for wireless audio streaming from compatible mobile devices and computers.
