The Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine Special Edition (UDM-SE) is a gateway and router designed for managing network traffic and continuous video recording. It functions as a wired appliance without built-in Wi-Fi, connecting local devices through eight Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports. Upstream internet connections use dedicated WAN interfaces, supporting 2.5 GbE Ethernet or 10G SFP+ uplinks. The integrated switch provides Power over Ethernet (PoE) to connected hardware, such as access points or security cameras. The device manages network resources via a built-in DHCP server. It operates on a 100–240 V AC power supply and has a maximum power consumption of 50 W.

Designed for equipment cabinets, the 1U rack-mountable gateway is constructed with a stainless steel enclosure and an aluminium finish. It runs on the UniFi OS platform, supporting both local web-based administration and remote cloud-based management. Network traffic is managed by an integrated stateful firewall, along with support for OSPF and BGP routing and VLAN segmentation. Private remote access can be configured using protocols such as IPSec, OpenVPN, WireGuard, and L2TP. A front-facing touchscreen provides diagnostic information, supplemented by LED indicators on the network ports to show link and activity status.
