The ASUS ZenWiFi XD5 is a dual-band mesh Wi-Fi system utilizing Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) technology, supplied as a three-unit package intended for large area coverage, rated up to 646.5 square meters. This system provides a combined theoretical maximum data transfer rate of 3000 Mbit/s across the two active bands. The system allocates 574 Mbit/s to the 2.4 GHz frequency band and 2402 Mbit/s to the high-speed 5 GHz band. Coverage stability and efficiency are supported by integrated Beamforming and MU-MIMO technologies.

Each mesh unit includes a 1700 MHz single-core processor, supported by 512 MB of internal memory and 128 MB of flash storage for system operations. Wired connectivity is facilitated by two Gigabit Ethernet ports per unit, designed for both WAN and LAN use depending on the node configuration. The housing is constructed from white plastic, maintaining a small footprint at 35mm wide by 207mm high, and each unit weighs 307 grams.

The network operating system features integrated security functionality via ASUS AiProtection Classic, which includes parental controls, firewall management, and IP filtering. Additional networking capabilities include Quality of Service (QoS), dynamic and static IP support, and DHCP management. The system also allows for secure remote access through VPN support, accommodating OpenVPN, PPTP, and IPSec protocols.
