The MAKITA DHR171RAJ 18V Brushless SDS-Plus Cordless Rotary Hammer Kit is a battery-powered rotary hammer for portable drilling work. It is intended for concrete, brickwork, wood and steel during installation and renovation tasks. The drill operates from an 18 V battery rather than a mains connection. Maximum drilling diameter is 13 mm in wood, 10 mm in steel and 17 mm in concrete. These material-specific limits help when selecting suitable bit sizes for mixed drilling work.

With a battery fitted, the drill weighs 2.8 kg, which is relevant when planning sustained or overhead use. Its SDS-Plus chuck is designed for quick fitting of compatible drill bits. An integrated LED work light provides visibility around the drilling point. Variable speed control allows the rotation rate to be adjusted for different tasks and materials.
