The Garmin Instinct E features a 45 mm reinforced polymer case and chemically strengthened glass, built to meet the MIL-STD-810 standard for thermal and shock resistance. It has a water resistance rating of 10 ATM, making it suitable for swimming and surface water sports. For positioning, the watch uses multi-GNSS support (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo) to provide location data. The 0.9-inch monochrome, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display is designed for visibility in a range of lighting conditions.

A suite of integrated sensors enables detailed health and activity tracking. The device includes a wrist-based optical heart rate monitor, a blood oxygen (SpO₂) sensor, a barometric altimeter, and an electronic compass. These sensors feed data into functions such as stress monitoring, advanced sleep analysis, VO2 Max estimation, and recovery time guidance. The watch also provides daily suggested workouts based on the user's current training load and status.

This smartwatch uses Bluetooth to connect with compatible iOS and Android smartphones, delivering smart notifications for calls and texts to the wrist. It also supports ANT+ connectivity for pairing with external fitness sensors. The internal battery provides up to 16 days of operation in smartwatch mode or up to 24 hours with continuous GPS activity tracking. All collected data syncs with the Garmin Connect companion application for further review and management.
