The MikroTik R11E-LR8 LoRaWAN Gateway Module is an internal radio card for adding long-range IoT connectivity to compatible RouterBOARD hardware. This device serves as a dedicated LoRa gateway, connecting field sensors and telemetry nodes to the network. Operators can use it to deploy or expand monitoring systems for smart metering, asset tracking, and environmental sensing without needing an external standalone unit. The card relies on the host system for data routing and lacks independent Ethernet or Wi-Fi interfaces. Power is drawn through the connection interface, removing the need for a separate power supply or PoE injector. Using the LoRaWAN standard, the module integrates with existing routers to reduce hardware at the deployment site, allowing for network expansion wherever an internal slot is available.
Installation requires an available Mini-PCIe slot. The card is designed strictly for indoor use and carries an IP0 protection rating; it lacks resistance to dust or moisture, meaning it must be housed within the host router's enclosure. Administrators configure the radio via the host device's web-based management interface, and a built-in firewall provides security at the gateway edge. The card has a low thermal footprint, making it suitable for integration into solar-powered, battery-backed, or off-grid systems with limited resources.
