The Braun 20166 10x50 binoculars are traditional Porro-prism optics designed for birdwatching, hiking, and general nature observation. They provide 10x magnification paired with 50 mm objective lenses, which gather enough light for clear viewing in reasonable daylight. The optical system uses BK-7 Porro prisms, a design that produces the classic binocular shape and good depth perception. At 1,000 metres, the field of view is 99 metres wide. Weighing 790 grams, the unit is manageable for extended handheld use outdoors. The Porro-prism construction adds bulk compared with roof-prism alternatives, but it supports the light-gathering capability of the 50 mm objectives.
Fully coated lenses process the light gathered by the objectives to keep the image clear. A rubber-armoured housing gives a secure grip and protects the internal mechanisms during transport. For user comfort, the binoculars provide 11.8 mm of eye relief along with rubber pop-up eyecups. The central focusing system adjusts both barrels at the same time to keep the image sharp. The interpupillary distance can be set between 56 and 74 mm to fit different face shapes. The closest focusing distance is 10 metres, which suits subjects at a moderate range rather than close-up insects.
Key Features:- 5 mm exit pupil – matches the dilation of the human eye in lower light.
- 22.4 twilight factor – indicates the optical capability under fading daylight.
- Diopter adjustment of -4 to +4 – corrects focus imbalances between the user's eyes.
- Tripod mounting supported – allows attachment to a stand for steady, long-duration viewing.
- Real field of view of 5.7 degrees – specifies the angular width of the observable area.
