The SwitchBot Motion Sensor is a wireless indoor device designed to detect movement and changes in ambient light. It uses a passive infrared (PIR) detector to register when someone enters or moves through a space. An integrated light sensor measures ambient brightness, allowing connected automations to trigger in low-light conditions. This makes the unit suitable for managing lighting routines in hallways, bedrooms, offices, and living areas. The hardware is intended strictly for indoor operation and communicates locally rather than relying on a continuous cloud connection.

Installation uses a magnetic base that attaches to a wall or another suitable surface, making physical repositioning straightforward without tools. Connectivity relies on Bluetooth to pair directly with the SwitchBot mobile app, available for both Android and iOS devices. Adding a SwitchBot Hub to the setup enables broader smart-home integration and remote control outside the local network. The sensor draws power from two replaceable AAA batteries, giving a maximum operational lifespan of up to three years. It does not have native Wi-Fi support and routes all wireless communication through the Bluetooth protocol.
