The HPE Aruba Networking 5406R zl2 Switch is a Layer 3 managed chassis for enterprise aggregation networks. Instead of fixed ports, it features six open module slots for custom copper and fibre configurations. The unit delivers a switching capacity of 960 Gbit/s and a forwarding rate of 392.8 Mpps. It supports 10G network speeds and Power over Ethernet (PoE) when equipped with compatible blades. This modular design allows administrators to scale hardware capacity as required.

The 4U chassis measures 444.5 mm in width and 450.9 mm in depth and supports standard rack mounting. Management is accessible via a web interface, a command-line interface using RJ-45 or micro USB console ports, and centralized platforms such as HPE Aruba Networking Central. Advanced Layer 3 routing handles up to 15,000 entries using OSPF, BGP, and RIP protocols. Traffic is managed by integrated Access Control Lists (ACLs), Quality of Service (QoS) rules, and VLAN capabilities. The device maintains network stability using Spanning Tree Protocol, link aggregation, and broadcast storm control.
