The StarTech.com PEX1394B3 3-Port PCI Express FireWire Card adds legacy IEEE 1394 connectivity to modern desktop systems. It converts a single PCIe x1 slot into three external FireWire ports for peripherals such as camcorders and external drives. The card supports data transfer rates of up to 800 Mbit/s via the FireWire 800 interface. Based on the PCI Express 1.1 standard, the card uses a Texas Instruments XIO2213B chipset to manage the bridge between the PCIe bus and connected devices to ensure signal stability.

The card is compatible with Windows versions from 98SE through to Windows 11 and various Server editions. Mac users can use the card on macOS 10.2.4 or later, and it is supported on Linux kernel versions from 3.5.x. Measuring 18 mm x 85 mm x 120 mm and weighing 48 grams, the unit ships in a standard-profile form factor and includes a low-profile bracket for installation in slimline chassis. An IEEE 1394b FireWire 800 cable is included for immediate use. With plug-and-play support, most operating systems recognise the hardware without the need for manual driver installation.
