The Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 is a specialized low-profile CPU cooler designed exclusively for the AMD AM4 platform. Its primary function is to provide stable thermal performance in highly restrictive chassis environments, such as Small Form Factor (SFF) or HTPC cases. The cooler maintains an extremely low overall height of 37 mm, ensuring complete clearance over tall RAM modules and motherboard components like PCIe slots. Heat transfer relies on a nickel-plated copper base connected directly to the aluminum fin stack via two 6 mm diameter heat pipes.

Cooling is facilitated by a single 92 mm fan with a slim 14 mm thickness. The fan utilizes Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control, allowing the rotation speed to dynamically adjust between 600 RPM and 2500 RPM in response to CPU load. This dynamic operation enables a maximum airflow rate of 50.5 m³/h while maintaining a peak acoustic output of 19.9 dB. Included is a Low-Noise Adaptor (LNA) cable, which restricts the maximum fan speed to 1800 RPM to further reduce operational noise down to 14.08 dB.
