The Cisco EHWIC-D-8ESG is an 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Enhanced High-Speed WAN Interface Card (EHWIC) that functions as a Layer 2 managed switch for compatible Cisco Integrated Services Routers. This single-wide expansion module provides eight RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet ports, allowing for local network expansion without a standalone switch. It features a switching capacity of 16 Gbit/s and a forwarding throughput of 11.9 Mpps, consolidating branch-office or small enterprise connections on a central routing platform.

Network administrators can use standard traffic controls, including Quality of Service (QoS) and Access Control Lists (ACL), to secure and prioritise data flows. The non-PoE hardware supports 802.1x RADIUS authentication and manages traffic via SNMP, RMON, and SSL protocols. For segmenting multi-tenant or departmental traffic, the module supports the IEEE 802.1Q standard for up to 64 active VLANs.
