The HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 are true wireless earbuds that feature an open-fit in-ear design. Each earbud is equipped with a 14.3 mm dynamic driver that covers a frequency range from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. The design incorporates hybrid active noise cancellation, which is adapted for the open-fit form factor to reduce a degree of ambient sound. For connectivity, the earbuds utilize Bluetooth 5.2 and support standard A2DP, HFP, and AVRCP profiles for audio streaming and hands-free calls.

The earbuds provide up to 4 hours of continuous audio playback on a single charge, with the total listening time extending to 22 hours when using the included charging case. The case recharges through a standard USB-C connection. Integrated touch controls on the earbuds allow for management of music and calls with tap and swipe gestures. Constructed from a plastic enclosure, each earbud weighs 4.1 grams and the set is rated IPX4 for resistance to water splashes from any direction.
