The Cooler Master MasterBox 500 is a mid-tower chassis constructed from a combination of steel, plastic, and mesh, featuring a tempered glass side panel for a clear view of internal components. Its design supports a wide range of motherboard form factors, including Mini-ITX, Micro-ATX, ATX, and EATX, providing a flexible foundation for various build types. The front panel is a fine mesh construction intended to allow direct air intake into the chassis. An integrated ARGB lighting system, controlled by a dedicated button, allows for user-selected illumination effects.

The internal architecture is configured for substantial cooling and hardware compatibility. The case accommodates liquid cooling radiators up to 360 mm in length on both the front and top mounts, with rear support for a 120 mm unit. For air-cooled systems, it includes one pre-installed 120 mm ARGB fan at the front and one 120 mm fan at the rear. Component clearances allow for CPU coolers up to 165 mm in height and standard ATX power supplies with a maximum length of 180 mm, while multiple routing holes assist with cable management.
