The Fractal Design Era 2 is a small form factor chassis designed for ITX motherboards. Its construction features an aluminum exterior and a top panel made from FSC-certified walnut, providing a distinct aesthetic. The internal layout is structured for compact component arrangements and supports SFX or SFX-L power supplies. The design incorporates a movable central wall, allowing for flexibility when installing components. A tool-free panel system is used for simplified access to the interior for building and maintenance.

This case accommodates multiple cooling configurations, with support for both air and liquid cooling solutions. It provides mounting locations for fans and radiators at the front, top, and bottom of the chassis, and dust filters are included to maintain internal cleanliness. For storage, the chassis provides dedicated mounting points for 2.5-inch drives. The front I/O panel includes several USB ports for connectivity, alongside a combination audio jack and an illuminated power button.
