The Garmin Instinct 3 is a sports watch built with a rugged, 50 mm fiber-reinforced polymer and aluminum case. It features a 1.3-inch AMOLED color display with a 416 x 416 pixel resolution, protected by sapphire glass for scratch resistance. The watch is operated via physical buttons, as it does not include a touchscreen interface. Its design is rated for 10 ATM water resistance, making it suitable for swimming and water-based activities.

For navigation and activity tracking, the device incorporates a multi-GNSS system that supports GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo, enhanced with SatIQ technology for positional accuracy. A full suite of environmental sensors, including a barometric altimeter, barometer, and a 3-axis electronic compass, provides comprehensive data for outdoor pursuits. The integrated optical sensor on the wrist measures heart rate and blood oxygen (SpO2) levels, feeding into advanced training metrics and health monitoring functions such as sleep and stress tracking.
