The Keychron V5 Max is a 96% mechanical keyboard designed for customizability and performance. Its gasket mount construction, combined with internal sound-dampening foam, results in a specific typing feel and acoustic profile. This model is equipped with Gateron Jupiter Red linear switches, and the hot-swappable sockets on the circuit board allow for switch replacement without soldering. The keyboard features double-shot PBT keycaps in an OSA profile, which provides a textured surface and resistance to wear from use.

Extensive customization is available through QMK and VIA firmware, enabling users to remap keys, create macros, and save profiles directly to the keyboard's onboard memory. A programmable rotary knob provides direct control over user-assigned functions. The keyboard offers three connection methods: a low-latency 2.4 GHz wireless mode, Bluetooth 5.1 for connecting to multiple devices, and a detachable USB-C cable for wired use. In both wired and 2.4 GHz modes, the keyboard operates at a 1000 Hz polling rate for registered inputs.
