AIT-4 media is based on AME II technology. Improving upon its predecessor, AME, AME II employs a new method for applying the metal evaporated layer, which results in a tape with higher output and lower noise. Other improvements include a super-smooth tape surface to improve head-to-tape contact along with a re-enforced protective DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating for better headwear. Finally, enhancements to the lubricant technology result in a more stable running tape with a lower coefficient of friction.
