The Sony WH-1000XM4 is an over-ear headphone model featuring 40mm dynamic drivers with a frequency response of 4 Hz to 40,000 Hz. The closed-back acoustic design provides passive noise isolation, which works in conjunction with its active noise cancellation system. For connectivity, it utilizes Bluetooth 5.0 and supports multi-point pairing to connect to two source devices concurrently. A detachable 1.2-meter cable with a 3.5mm connector is also included for optional wired listening. The integrated digital signal processing (DSP) handles audio and call quality.

The internal lithium-ion battery provides up to 30 hours of continuous audio playback with active noise cancellation enabled, and a maximum of 38 hours when the feature is turned off. The headphones support fast charging via the USB-C port; a 10-minute charge can supply several hours of use. Functions such as volume adjustment and call management are operated through touch controls located on the earcup. The unit weighs 254 grams, has a foldable design for storage, and comes with a hard-shell carrying case for transport.
