The NETGEAR Orbi 870 Series Satellite is an add-on unit designed to expand an existing Orbi 870 mesh network coverage within large homes or small offices. This unit utilizes the Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) standard and operates across three frequency bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz. The tri-band architecture allows the system to establish a dedicated high-speed wireless backhaul link while simultaneously servicing client devices. Maximum theoretical aggregated throughput across all bands is rated at 21,000 Mbit/s.

The satellite is rated to cover up to 277 m² and is capable of supporting connections for up to 150 client devices simultaneously. Integrated into the casing are eight internal antennas, utilizing beamforming and MIMO technology to maintain stable links throughout the coverage area. For local wired connectivity, the unit includes four Ethernet LAN ports which support mixed 1 Gigabit and 2.5 Gigabit data rates. Security protocols include WPA3 encryption, alongside features like VPN server support and parental control options for network management.
